Style:

Her tattooing style, which blends mark-making, blackwork, and geometric motifs, developed from a body of work spanning over three decades and six countries, beginning in her hometown of London. Her technique honors traditional indigenous, spiritual, and tribal cultures, and she derives the unique patterns that define her style from forms occurring in nature and architecture viewed through her own queer-punk sensibilities.

Cover-Ups:

About fifty percent of her work is cover work. She feels fulfilled as an artist by making people feel better about their bodies by covering their less-wanted tattoo work with new work that may fit them better.  Whether you’ve made a bad tattoo choice in the past, or have scars from a life well lived – she loves helping people reclaim their bodies with reworks, cover-ups, and blast-overs.

Process:

Her process begins when she meets her clients. Drawing on the repertoire of motifs that recur and evolve across her body of work, she develops each piece by expressing her intuitions on the surface of the client’s body, uniting internal emotion and external form in the ongoing process of painstakingly laying down ink. What results are one-of-a-kind pieces adapted to the site-specific contours of each client’s body that ROXX views as not merely adorning but completing them: an external representation of the client’s most ideal inner self, interpreted through her unique visual language.

ROXX’s work has appeared in major media outlets, such as The New York Times, GQ, Vogue, The Ellen Show, and Out Magazine, while international exhibitions have honored the influence of her work, including two pieces of her work in the 2017 MoMA exhibit, Items: Is Fashion Modern?

ROXX has had the pleasure of tattooing cultural icons such as Machine Gun Kelly, Ricky Martin, Rosie O’Donnell, Adam Lambert, Michèle Lamy and many more.
